Public Service Announcement: Provincial HIV Testing Day

As HIV rates continue to be a serious issue in Saskatchewan; this week, you're being encouraged to know your HIV status.

Tuesday, June 27, 2017 marks HIV Testing Day in Saskatchewan and around the world. A number of activities are planned to create awareness about HIV in our province, and to provide HIV testing to adults. Testing can lead to earlier diagnosis and access to treatment.

HIV testing clinics have been set up on June 27, 2017 at these locations:

Sexual Health Clinic (310 Idylwyld Drive N) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

White Buffalo Youth Lodge (602 20th Street W) from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Saskatoon Sexual Health (210 2nd Avenue N) from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

In addition, the Saskatoon mobile Street Health Van will be providing on-the-spot HIV testing throughout the city from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

In Saskatchewan, HIV rates are high and on the rise. The disease is often the product of complex social issues. If you have HIV, you can pass it on to others, even if you feel perfectly healthy. Knowing your HIV status early means you can seek early treatment; this not only protects your health and your partner's health but also that of others around you. Being diagnosed early gives you a better chance of living a long and healthy life.

Addressing HIV requires a collaborative effort which is why Saskatoon Health Region HIV Strategy Coordinators is working in partnership with a number of groups, including the Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA), the First Nations Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB), All Nations Hope Network, AIDS Saskatoon, Saskatoon Indian and Metis Friendship Centre (SIMFC), Persons Living with AIDS (PLWA) Network, the Elizabeth Fry Society and Saskatoon Sexual Health.
