Learning to Survive and Thrive at the Third Annual Urology Symposium
Learning to Survive and Thrive at the Third Annual Urology Symposium
Members of the public learned how to Survive and Thrive when faced with diagnosis of prostate cancer at the third annual Urology Symposium held on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Hilton Garden Inn.
Presented by Motorcycle Ride for Dad a non-profit that raises funds to support prostate cancer research and education, the symposium featured keynote speakers John Christopherson, Clinical Counsellor with the B.C. Cancer Agency and Heather Millar, Registered Dietician with the Saskatoon Health Region. The event also featured patient stories and an open forum for discussion with members of the Leslie and Irene Dubé Urology Centre of Health.
We are very grateful to Motorcycle Ride for Dad for their support of this event which provides valuable information to the public and also to physicians said Lecina Hicke, Manager of Major Giving at St. Pauls Hospital Foundation. This is really a win-win situation because Motorcycle Ride for Dads support not only provides financial support for the symposium, they also raise awareness about the event to those who really need it patients and families who are facing a diagnosis of prostate cancer.
Vince Streukens from Motorcycle Ride for Dad has attended the symposium since its inception, and says the event is excellent in terms of education and awareness: When you go through that journey, theres things you learn along the way that doctors dont tell you not that theyre hiding anything so much as a lot is happening and they cant tell you everything. This seminar covers some of the other options you have, some of the after-care issues and other issues you might encounter
This is the third Urology Symposium, which is a free event held annually by the Leslie and Irene Dubé Urology Centre of Health at St. Pauls Hospital, and supported by St. Pauls Hospital Foundation. Special thanks to Motorcycle Ride for Dad, media sponsor Rawlco Radio and all the generous donors to St. Pauls Hospital Foundation who make this event happen each year.
The Leslie and Irene Dubé Urology Centre of Health at St. Pauls Hospital provides important resources and state-of-the-art equipment to enable advanced detection and less invasive treatment options for those suffering from prostate cancer and other urological diseases. The Centre also hosts an annual urology symposium and incorporates a nurse navigator to serve as a patient advocate and liaison between health care providers and patients who need help finding their way through the health care system.
