Thanks To You...
St. Paul’s Will Have A New Medical Library and Patient & Family Resource Centre

St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation is thrilled by the community response to our request for support for a new Medical Library and Patient & Family Resource Centre at St. Paul’s Hospital.

To date, more than $245,000 has been raised in support of the advancements, and we expect to begin construction on the new space in January of 2017.

The existing Medical Library will move to a more accessible location, right next to the cafeteria, and it will be accompanied by a new Patient & Family Resource Centre.  This bright and comfortable space will further St. Paul’s Hospital’s holistic approach to healing by ensuring patients and families have access to the knowledge and education they need to help them heal their body, mind and spirit.

Suzanne Shepherd, Director of Interprofessional Practice, Education and Research for the Saskatoon Health Region says that the new centre will provide improved access to librarians, a critical part of helping staff stay up-to-date on all the new research and practice guidelines.

Studies show that having an accessible library with well-trained librarians provides doctors, nurses and other professionals with time-saving support that will help them diagnose their patients, choose the best tests and therapies, and even help reduce their patient’s length of hospital stay!

The librarians will also help guide patients and their families to understand and manage their healthcare needs by helping them find accurate, trustworthy information through better online medical searches.

Thank you to everyone who responded to our request for help, and for everyone who participated in the 2015 Mistletoe Ball and Caged for the Cure events that supported this project.

You are making a significant difference in care for patients and families in Saskatchewan, and helping our Hospital to achieve its vision for a community of health, hope and compassion for all.
