St. Paul’s Hospital has been leading end-of-life care in Saskatoon for more than a quarter of a century since the opening of the first Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital in 1990 and the construction of Saskatchewan’s first free-standing residential hospice, the Hospice at Glengarda, in 2021.

Kidney Health Programs at St. Paul’s Hospital serve the residents of Saskatoon and also of Central and Northern Saskatchewan. Primary Health and Chronic Disease Management provides education and support to those living with chronic disease.

Foundation Celebrates 40 Years of Community Support
This past year marked the 40th Anniversary of the St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation. For 40 years, “we have had the privilege of providing philanthropic leadership in support of St. Paul’s Hospital, holding the Grey Nuns’ legacy close to our hearts and striving to lead with the same sense of compassion and courage” explains SPH Foundation CEO Lecina Hicke. The Foundation has allocated more than $86 million to the Hospital since its formation in 1982, and supports our healthcare teams in providing the best possible care to those that we serve.

Creative Care through the Arts: St. Paul’s Hospital Healing Arts Program
Volunteering in the field of arts in healthcare is a tremendously rewarding experience. The Healing Arts Program at St. Paul’s Hospital was initiated in 2005 under the Mission Office in collaboration with the Volunteer Workforce. Marlessa Wesolowski, the Artist in Residence at St. Paul's Hospital, knows firsthand; she was a volunteer who helped form the Healing Arts Program. 

Our friends in Infection Prevention and Control
IPC sees their role very simply as providing staff with the tools they need to prevent patients from getting infections while in hospital through education and policies.

Nurse recruitment in the Philippines
Phoebe Chometa, Manager of 5A Surgery and Ostomy and Wound Care, was a part of the 2022 trip to the Philippines to recruit nurses, and she has been asked to return for the March 2023 follow-up trip.

Hosting bingo at the St. Paul’s Hospital and community dialysis units
At the end of September, the St. Paul’s Hospital and community dialysis units filled with music as patients played Truth and Reconciliation Bingo in honour of National Truth & Reconciliation Day and Orange Shirt Day on Sept. 30. FOUNDATION REPORTS SIGNIFICANT REVENUE THANKS TO COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR HOSPICE
The St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation Annual General Meeting was held today in an online event hosted by Volunteer Board Chair Neil Weber. Revenues of an astounding $16.67 M were reported by the Foundation in 2019, due in large part to community support for the Close to Home Campaign for Hospice and End-of-Life Care.

$20M Close to Home Campaign For Hospice Concludes With $1M Capstone Gift
Today St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation received a $1 million gift from Jim and Lisa Yuel and their daughters Neli and Taya. “We are thrilled to announce that with this remarkable gift, we are now able to effectively mark the completion of the Close to Home Campaign for Hospice and End-of-life Care,” said Foundation CEO Lecina Hicke.
